GOODWOOD ROAD RACING CLUB SPRING SPRINT

The Fourth Members Meeting. Easter Monday.09

This event took place on a warm and sunny day, which brought out a large crowd to watch 104 cars in 8 classes.
The Juniors were in Class E. for non road legal or competition cars built before 1980 with an engine of less than 2000 cc.

In practice Neil Twyman was fastest in a Lotus XI (1498cc.) in a time of 105.90. Followed by Alex Morton driving his sons’ car, a Lightning-Envoyette - his Lotus 21 had developed gear selection problems while testing here a few days before. Alex managed a time of 106.86.

Simon Diffey’s car, the lovely gold and black liveried Lotus 20 was driven by Martin Greaves who managed a time of 118.85, followed by the green Elva 100 of Justin Fleming, in a time of 124.15.

There were 21 cars in this class ranging from the Standard 10 of Lloyd McNeill to Patrick Blakeney-Edwards Frazer Nash Le Mans Replica.

Then we were treated to the timed runs. Neil Twyman repeated his practice performance and was fastest at 101.83. Alex Morton showed the flag for FJ with a time of 104.07 to take second,  further down the order Martin Greaves with a time of 111.69.  And Justin in the Elva at 114.77.

The second run of this class was again won by Neil Twyman with a time of 101.76 coming in ahead of Alex Flemming with a time of 104.07. This time Justin Fleming bested Martin Greaves in time of 108.77. Martin managed a 109.87. I did hear him having problem with the gear change after he left the line.

So the overall time of the two runs gave the Class win to Neil Twyman with a time of 101.78.  2nd to Alex Morton’s 104.07. 6th to Justin Fleming with a time of 108.77.   and 7th to Martin Greaves with a time of 109.87.   The cars were offered a third run if they would like but none of the Juniors improved their times.

Jarrah Venables, usually to be seen in the FJ blue Nota was driving in Class F. in a Mercury Comet Cyclone with a 4700cc engine, he managed a time of 101.89.

The fastest time of the day was by Peter Kyle-Henney in a Porsche GT3 Cup with a time of 84.53.

I went to the event in my Lotus Elite Super 95, I arrived at about 9am and stayed all day, in a very busy paddock, the warm weather bought the people out.
